Larimar Homes continues to grow its foster care services by hiring, training and providing support to foster families in the Sault Ste. Marie area, willing to share their homes and lives with children and youths in need of caring, support, guidance, and opportunity for growth. This model of care is also known as a Mixed Modality Program. The process begins with you sending us your information in order to receive an application package.
Once we receive your completed application, the interview process consists of 2 interviews, reference checks, health assessment and immunization records, police background checks, a child welfare check completed through CAS, a driver's abstract, a home inspection by the local fire department, and finally a physical dwelling inspection. All of this information is collected to complete a Homestudy which determines the feasibility of matching your home and skill set with the young people we work with. Once you become a LarimarFoster Parent/ Family, you will receive:
- Orientation training
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training
- Job shadowing training in one of our licensed foster homes
- Weekly home visits from our Foster Care Supervisor
- Trained Youth Workers to provide you with support and relief
- On-going training: Daniel Memorial Foster Parent Program, quarterly Lunch and Learn seminars, and in-house workshops
- Opportunity for consulting with a Clinical Psychologist
- 24/7 on-call support
- Competitive remuneration that includes a living allowance and daily living expenses
